This is an exciting and important moment for our great City. APEC will be the largest international event in decades since the Charter of the United Nations was signed in in San Francisco in 1954. San Francisco is a global City and I am proud that the Biden Administration chose us to be featured on the world stage as we welcome leaders, their delegations from the 21 APEC Member Economies, and CEOs from around the world. APEC is presenting us with the opportunity to highlight our City for residents, workers, and visitors. We are seizing every opportunity to create the most positive impacts for San Francisco not just for when the events are taking place during November, but also for our future. That’s why we have been working diligently to ensure a successful APEC week to showcase this beautiful place we call home. Thanks to our committed partners from the business and philanthropic communities and so many other supporters, we have been building momentum and reaching major milestones this year: ‧ We have exceeded our $20 million fundraising goal from individuals and companies that firmly believe in the work we do ‧ We have exceeded our target goal in the number of volunteers who are passionate to support our City The support we have received demonstrates the confidence in San Francisco. Throughout this year, we have been working with our federal public safety partners on security measures to ensure residents and attendees are safe during the week of APEC, including during the time when President Biden will be hosting meetings for leaders of APEC Member Economies. After months of planning, last week the U.S. Secret Service announced expected impacts for drivers, public transportation, and pedestrians in the areas around the Moscone Center, the Embarcadero and Nob Hill. For more information about those impacts, visit this link. The APEC event holds a National Special Security Event (NSSE) designation between November 15 and 18, which means there will be significant impacts in those areas due to heightened security measures. We want to ensure that our residents and businesses know to expect impacts to their daily routines and operations and make alternate plans in the days leading up to November 15. Throughout the entire week of APEC, everyone should anticipate traffic and transit impacts in the areas outlined by the U.S. Secret Service as designated by the NSSE. During this time, I encourage you to plan ahead by accessing the following resources: SF.gov SF.gov, San Francisco’s centralized website for all City services, will serve as a landing page directing residents and guests to information on City services continuity during APEC, including public transit temporary reroutes, adjustments to hours of public-facing services at City buildings, and information for small businesses. Visit this page for more information. 3-1-1 Call 3-1-1 for updates on key APEC-related activities, including traffic disruptions and transit reroutes, from the 311 Customer Service Center. 3-1-1 offers customer service support with translation services in over 200 languages. AlertSF San Francisco’s emergency notification system, AlertSF, provides emergency updates to subscribers via email, text message or phone call. AlertSF would be used to inform all who live in, work in, or visiting San Francisco significant APEC related impacts to City services such as transit disruptions and emergency public information and alerts. Residents are encouraged to subscribe to AlertSF by texting their zip code to 888-777, or by texting APEC2023 to 888-777 for APEC-related emergency information. The Office of Economic and Workforce Development and the Office of Small Business will conduct direct, door to door outreach to residents, business owners and employers in the areas designated by the NSSE. Team members will hand out flyers available in multiple languages to help in planning for the week, including information on how to coordinate deliveries and the process to enter the secure perimeter. We will share more information as it becomes available. I hope you are as excited as I am to welcome the thousands of visitors that will come to San Francisco from around the world. Please add me on WeChat for updates and resources: londonbreed. Sincerely, London N. Breed Mayor

SF.gov

AlertSF
